Missions Information

Time-Out to Make an Impact

Group Projects

Thursday Nights at The Pantry:

A great project for a small group to participate in together. Join

a Pantry Manager to check in food that has been collected during

the week. Bring the children, some construction paper, and some

crayons to let the kids made cards to be put in the boxes we hand

out!

We have a lot of young adults that are away at college, in the

military, or working in other cities. A small group of committed

volunteers could bless these young adults by collecting, packaging,

and sending fun little packages a couple of times a year.

Food Drives:

Take the lead on one of the many food drives that The Pantry

has scheduled for the spring. What does that mean? Get a

bin to the organization before the drive, picked up the food

collected periodically, do a great job of thanking the organization

afterwards!

Women of Grace:

Once every month HMUMC is responsible for providing and

serving a meal for a soup kitchen in downtown Atlanta. This is a

great opportunity for a group to go and serve together.

Family Opportunities

One Saturday every month HMUMC distributes Angel Food to

members of the community that have ordered boxes online. The

distribution day is typically the 3rd Saturday of the month. This is a

great way for adults, youth, and children to serve together!

A couple of times a year HMUMC prepares and serves a meal for

Trinity Soup Kitchen, in downtown Atlanta. Whether helping to

prepare the meal, or traveling to Trinity to help serve, this is a

great way for families to serve together.

Pantry Pickups:

The Pantry almost always has a food drive going on somewhere!

Families can be a huge help to The Pantry by volunteering to help

pick food up from a collection point and bringing it to HMUMC.

Make Your Own Project:

A good question for adults to ask themselves is, “What Breaks My

Heart?” What is it in our society, in our own community, that we

simply cannot believe is happening!? And then…what can I do

about it? Talk to your kids about what makes them sad. Other

kids that don’t have a house? The animals that are at the pound?

What is it? What can you, as a family, do?

Individual Opportunities

Have a passion for helping HMUMC partner with parents to bless

our children? Have two hours a week you’d like to donate to

HMUMC? Know how to use Microsoft Word and Facebook? If so,

you can be a huge blessing by updating the church website once a

week with information about Wellspring.

Have a passion for the various mission efforts that HMUMC is

involved with? Have two hours a week you’d like to donate to

HMUMC? Know how to use Microsoft Word and Facebook? If so,

you can be a huge blessing by updating the church website one a

week with information about Wellspring.

Pantry Manager:

Pantry Managers are the faithful frontline in The Pantry. Teamed

in pairs of two, the PMs run the show on Saturday mornings.

From packing boxes, to putting other volunteers to work, to (most

importantly) visiting with those who visit The Pantry, bring a Pantry

Manager is an incredibly rewarding and challenging opportunity.

Administrative Helper:

All of the staff and volunteers that lead ministries at HMUMC are

incredibly skilled in some area. Most of them, however, are totally

(or, at least, nearly) deficient at administration. We need help!

Like organizing, planning, and picking out pretty fonts for emails?

We need you. Seriously.

Oasis @ HMUMC

Beginning January 12th, Time Out will change our programming slightly.  HMUMC is beginning a new program called Oasis, which encourages young families to worship together with their children.  There will be a family worship service from 6:30-7:00, and then the children will be sent to their classrooms for a reinforcement lesson, and the adults will have their "go deeper" session upstairs.  Due to the time conflict with Time Out, we are going to begin our meetings at 7 (and not attend the "go deeper" session with Matt Tuggle).  We will not have a devotion during our meetings after December, and announcements will be kept to a minimum to make the best use of our time.  Be on the lookout for more information about Oasis and the new family-mission outreach called Wellspring.
Here are the announcements from last night's meeting!
*Let Heather know if you would like to do an upcoming devotion or testimony.

*Fabric will need to be to Heather by November 17 meeting.

*Clipping for a Cause needs your coupon inserts. Please place in the bin in the entrance at the covered entrance or to Erin at a future meeting.  Please let Erin know if you would like to help with this ministry!

*Enough Luncheon is this Sunday, November 14 at 12:30-2:30 at MCHS. Register at hmumc.org .

*Canned food drive at Rick Tanner’s – bring 5 cans for The Pantry, receive Chicken Lips appetizer free.

*Canned food drive at Chick-fil-A – November 17-19. Bring a canned food item for The Pantry and receive a free biscuit (am) or free sandwich (pm).

*Sculpt Personal Training Studio is proud to announce their Thanksgiving Half-Ton Challenge!  For the next few weeks, Sculpt is trading non-persishable food for Pilates, personal training & nutrition sessions. For every 30 pounds of food you bring in, you will receive one free session of your choice. There is no limit to the number of sessions you can receive. Sculpt's goal is to collect 1000 pounds of food, which will be donated to The Pantry at HMUMC! Sculpt is located at 2089 Teron Terrace (Suite 150) in Dacula. The Thanksgiving Half-Ton Challenge promotion is valid through November 22.

*HMUMC Charge Conference is Tuesday November 23 at 7:00. We will celebrate the 2010 ministries at HMUMC, elect officers for 2011 and set compensation for appointed staff.
*HMUMC Thanksgiving Eve service November 24 at 7:00 is a special service of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

*There will be a new MMO class for 12-28 month olds starting in January. Child must be 12 months by January 1. Contact Amy Stokes.

*Sunday November 28 5-6 is the Family Advent Workshop. Create you own family Advent Wreath and decorate Christmas cookies. They are requesting a $10 per family donation to help with supplies. This will be followed by the Hanging of the Greens service where we decorate the sanctuary and review the traditions of the season.

*Dec 15 will be our “favorite things” meeting. We will bring a favorite holiday treat to share and a “thing” that we will exchange. Please keep your “thing” to around $10.  The “favorite things” is kinda like what Oprah does, share something you love as a mom, Christian, woman…

*If you would like to volunteer in one of the areas that Matt Tuggle discussed last night, please contact him at Matt.Tuggle@hmumc.org .

Coupon Seminar to Benefit The Pantry

If you don't want to wait until after Christmas to learn more about coupons, please consider coming to the coupon seminar we are holding on Sunday, November 21 / 4 o'clock at HMUMC.  We are asking for a $10 donation (all money donated goes to the Clipping for a Cause ministry for The Pantry) at the door.  Please talk with Erin at our next meeting if you have any questions about the seminar.

Couponing for The Pantry

If you are interested in helping clip coupons for The Pantry, please come to an informational meeting on Sunday, November 7th / 5 o'clock at HMUMC.  You are not obligating yourself to anything by attending!  We are looking for volunteers to help organize/file coupons, clip coupons and shop at Kroger & Publix (out of pocket expenses should be $10 and under per week and will be reimbursed by HMUMC).  Please talk with Erin at our next meeting for more information.

Next Meeting Topic

This week's meeting topic is a discussion on the chapter about Rebekah from the book Mothers of the Bible.  Don't forget to bring your discussion questions!
