A Few Announcements!

I can't believe we haven't had an update since 11/11!  That has to be some sort of record for me...I hope you all have enjoyed a few less messages in your inbox from Time Out!

Just a reminder that THIS Wednesday, December 8th will be our final meeting of the 2010 year!  Wednesday evening programming & fellowship dinner WILL NOT be taking place the following week as originally scheduled.  We have decided to hold our "My Favorite Things" meeting a week earlier, so bring your favorite thing of the year ($10 limit) for our gift exchange as well as your favorite holiday treat to share.  Check out the evite for more details.  Also, this week's meeting will end at 7:45 so those of us with kids participating in the kids choir events can pick them up on time!

Another reminder that our meetings will start up again 1/12 at 7:00.  If you are new to HMUMC, please consider joining us for the Oasis family worship service from 6:30-7:00.

We are so excited to announce two new arrivals from the stork!!  Jessica Cole and Michele Cancilla both had their babies on November 30th!

Josefina Marie Cancilla arrived at 1:26 AM, weighing in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.

Carter Robert Cole arrived at 4:34 PM, weighing in at 7 pounds and measuring 20 inches long.

Heather will be sending out the TakeThemAMeal.com sign-ups shortly to deliver meals, so be on the look-out!

Missions Information

Time-Out to Make an Impact

Group Projects

Thursday Nights at The Pantry:

A great project for a small group to participate in together. Join

a Pantry Manager to check in food that has been collected during

the week. Bring the children, some construction paper, and some

crayons to let the kids made cards to be put in the boxes we hand

out!

We have a lot of young adults that are away at college, in the

military, or working in other cities. A small group of committed

volunteers could bless these young adults by collecting, packaging,

and sending fun little packages a couple of times a year.

Food Drives:

Take the lead on one of the many food drives that The Pantry

has scheduled for the spring. What does that mean? Get a

bin to the organization before the drive, picked up the food

collected periodically, do a great job of thanking the organization

afterwards!

Women of Grace:

Once every month HMUMC is responsible for providing and

serving a meal for a soup kitchen in downtown Atlanta. This is a

great opportunity for a group to go and serve together.

Family Opportunities

One Saturday every month HMUMC distributes Angel Food to

members of the community that have ordered boxes online. The

distribution day is typically the 3rd Saturday of the month. This is a

great way for adults, youth, and children to serve together!

A couple of times a year HMUMC prepares and serves a meal for

Trinity Soup Kitchen, in downtown Atlanta. Whether helping to

prepare the meal, or traveling to Trinity to help serve, this is a

great way for families to serve together.

Pantry Pickups:

The Pantry almost always has a food drive going on somewhere!

Families can be a huge help to The Pantry by volunteering to help

pick food up from a collection point and bringing it to HMUMC.

Make Your Own Project:

A good question for adults to ask themselves is, “What Breaks My

Heart?” What is it in our society, in our own community, that we

simply cannot believe is happening!? And then…what can I do

about it? Talk to your kids about what makes them sad. Other

kids that don’t have a house? The animals that are at the pound?

What is it? What can you, as a family, do?

Individual Opportunities

Have a passion for helping HMUMC partner with parents to bless

our children? Have two hours a week you’d like to donate to

HMUMC? Know how to use Microsoft Word and Facebook? If so,

you can be a huge blessing by updating the church website once a

week with information about Wellspring.

Have a passion for the various mission efforts that HMUMC is

involved with? Have two hours a week you’d like to donate to

HMUMC? Know how to use Microsoft Word and Facebook? If so,

you can be a huge blessing by updating the church website one a

week with information about Wellspring.

Pantry Manager:

Pantry Managers are the faithful frontline in The Pantry. Teamed

in pairs of two, the PMs run the show on Saturday mornings.

From packing boxes, to putting other volunteers to work, to (most

importantly) visiting with those who visit The Pantry, bring a Pantry

Manager is an incredibly rewarding and challenging opportunity.

Administrative Helper:

All of the staff and volunteers that lead ministries at HMUMC are

incredibly skilled in some area. Most of them, however, are totally

(or, at least, nearly) deficient at administration. We need help!

Like organizing, planning, and picking out pretty fonts for emails?

We need you. Seriously.

Contact Matt Tuggle for more information or to found out how to get started!

Oasis @ HMUMC

Beginning January 12th, Time Out will change our programming slightly.  HMUMC is beginning a new program called Oasis, which encourages young families to worship together with their children.  There will be a family worship service from 6:30-7:00, and then the children will be sent to their classrooms for a reinforcement lesson, and the adults will have their "go deeper" session upstairs.  Due to the time conflict with Time Out, we are going to begin our meetings at 7 (and not attend the "go deeper" session with Matt Tuggle).  We will not have a devotion during our meetings after December, and announcements will be kept to a minimum to make the best use of our time.  Be on the lookout for more information about Oasis and the new family-mission outreach called Wellspring.
Here are the announcements from last night's meeting!
*Let Heather know if you would like to do an upcoming devotion or testimony.

*Fabric will need to be to Heather by November 17 meeting.

*Clipping for a Cause needs your coupon inserts. Please place in the bin in the entrance at the covered entrance or to Erin at a future meeting.  Please let Erin know if you would like to help with this ministry!

*Enough Luncheon is this Sunday, November 14 at 12:30-2:30 at MCHS. Register at hmumc.org .

*Canned food drive at Rick Tanner’s – bring 5 cans for The Pantry, receive Chicken Lips appetizer free.

*Canned food drive at Chick-fil-A – November 17-19. Bring a canned food item for The Pantry and receive a free biscuit (am) or free sandwich (pm).

*Sculpt Personal Training Studio is proud to announce their Thanksgiving Half-Ton Challenge!  For the next few weeks, Sculpt is trading non-persishable food for Pilates, personal training & nutrition sessions. For every 30 pounds of food you bring in, you will receive one free session of your choice. There is no limit to the number of sessions you can receive. Sculpt's goal is to collect 1000 pounds of food, which will be donated to The Pantry at HMUMC! Sculpt is located at 2089 Teron Terrace (Suite 150) in Dacula. The Thanksgiving Half-Ton Challenge promotion is valid through November 22.

*HMUMC Charge Conference is Tuesday November 23 at 7:00. We will celebrate the 2010 ministries at HMUMC, elect officers for 2011 and set compensation for appointed staff.
*HMUMC Thanksgiving Eve service November 24 at 7:00 is a special service of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

*There will be a new MMO class for 12-28 month olds starting in January. Child must be 12 months by January 1. Contact Amy Stokes.

*Sunday November 28 5-6 is the Family Advent Workshop. Create you own family Advent Wreath and decorate Christmas cookies. They are requesting a $10 per family donation to help with supplies. This will be followed by the Hanging of the Greens service where we decorate the sanctuary and review the traditions of the season.

*Dec 15 will be our “favorite things” meeting. We will bring a favorite holiday treat to share and a “thing” that we will exchange. Please keep your “thing” to around $10.  The “favorite things” is kinda like what Oprah does, share something you love as a mom, Christian, woman…

*If you would like to volunteer in one of the areas that Matt Tuggle discussed last night, please contact him at Matt.Tuggle@hmumc.org .

If you have any fabric scraps (minimum 2.5 feet x 2.5 feet size) collecting dust in your home, we will need them for a craft project for our December 1st meeting and would love any donations.  Holiday fabric would look best (it is a holiday baking mix to give to friends or donate to The Pantry @ HMUMC) but any fabric will do!

Welcome Baby Samonsky!

Jenn Samonsky had her baby boy on Monday afternoon!!!

His name is Zack James and mommy & baby are both doing well.

Thank You!

A great big thank you to Emily & Wendy C. for volunteering to help in coordinating meals for our expecting mommies!!

For those of you that are expecting, please send Emily & Wendy C. an email when your baby arrives so they can jump into action with the meal calendar!

Safe Kids ???

So here is the scoop for all of you guys following the Safe Kids soap opera...

I have emailed Safe Kids yet again and requested a confirmation that the date/time/location will work for them, and a week later have yet to hear anything.  If I don't hear anything confirming that they are actually going to show up for our meeting by the end of the week, then we will make other plans for our meeting on 10/20.  Stay tuned for the conclusion to the never-ending Safe Kids presentation drama!

This Week's Meeting Topic

Our meeting topic for this week will be a small group discussion about the chapter on Hagar from the book Mothers of the Bible.  You can print out a copy of the reading guide here.

Hospitality Volunteer Needed

The Steering Committee is looking for a volunteer (or two!) to help with coordinating meals for our moms in need.  We currently have six moms expecting babies in the next few months and are in need of someone to help us in organizing meal delivery for these moms (we try to schedule a week's worth of meals for each mom after delivery).  There is a great website that does all of the hard work (http://www.takethemameal.com/ - thanks Jill Deitz!), but it would be helpful to have a contact person who can take on this task.  If you are interested in helping, please let Heather or Erin know!

Monday, September 20, 2010

Directory to be Emailed Thursday

If you would like to be included in our member directory and/or receive a copy of the member directory, please get your registration forms into Erin or Heather by the meeting on Wednesday evening.  We will send out updates during the year as we add new members.

Last Call for Family Cookout RSVPs!

If you haven't yet replied to the evite for the Family Cookout this weekend at Erin's house, please do so ASAP!  We have to place a chicken order in advance and shop for paper products, so if you could please let us know if you will be coming via evite by Wednesday, we would greatly appreciate it!

Safe Kids is on Again!

Safe Kids has finally responded and they are planning on doing a presentation for our group on Wednesday, October 20th as planned, so we will keep that topic as originally scheduled and keep the coupon seminar for later in the year.  They are planning to discuss car seat, choking & holiday safety, and any other questions you may have that we can fit into the schedule!

This Week's Meeting Topic

Our meeting topic this week will be a group discussion about the chapter on Sarah from the book Mothers of the Bible.  Don't forget to bring your reading guide for the scripture & discussion questions!

Our next meeting is Wednesday, September 15th and our topic is It's Okay to Say No...and Not Feel Guilty!  If you haven't signed up for child care this year, please email Amy Stokes for children 3 and under and/or sign up for TLC for children 4 and older.  Hope to see everyone on Wednesday!

Heather's Devotion

Many of you asked about getting a copy of the devotion Heather did several weeks ago, so here it is!  It has also been posted as a Word document on the Shutterfly website.

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.

People, even more than things have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed; never throw out anyone.

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.

As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.

Evite List Update & Directory Publication

We are going to be updating the evite list for future events.  Please make sure that you have paperwork on file with us to continue receiving invitations for future events.  If you have been to a meeting, you have completed the registration forms; if you have not yet been to a meeting, please complete the registration forms found here and turn them in to Heather Korey or Erin Clary.  You do not have to commit to evening meetings to be active with this group, but for housekeeping purposes it would be very helpful for us to have an information sheet filled out for everyone that is going to participate in group activities.  We are also trying to get everyone's information compiled in order to publish our directory of contact information for members.  We cannot publish your contact information without your permission on the registration form, nor can we distribute the contact information of others to you until you have completed the paperwork.  Please print a copy of the registration forms and hand them in at the next Time Out meeting or event that you attend.  Thank you so much for your help with this!

Meeting Topic Change

We are going to change the topic for our October 20th meeting to Couponing 101: Grocery Stores.  We have been trying to get a representative from Safe Kids/Gwinnett County to come out and do a presentation on child safety & do car seat checks, but we can't get them to contact us back and confirm a presentation.  We are going to continue trying to get a safety presentation lined up for later in the year, but we know that we have lots of new mommies interested in learning more about coupons, so we decided to shift the schedule a bit.  Please feel free to invite your friends or anyone else you think is interested or could benefit from learning about extreme couponing!!

Another Pregnant Mommy!

Congratulations to Jessica Cole, one of our newest additions to the group who is also expecting a new addition herself...a baby boy due in December!  Please add Jessica to the list of mommies that we are going to be celebrating at our upcoming family cookout on September 26th at Erin Clary's house.  In addition to Jessica, we have four other expecting mommies in our group: Jenn Samonsky, Karen Hay, Jamie Bouchard & Beverly Prickett!

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

Next Meeting Topic

Just a reminder that our next meeting is Wednesday, September 8th and our meeting topic will be a discussion about our first book chapter on Eve from Mothers of the Bible.  Don't forget to print out and bring the list of the discussion questions posted last week!  If you missed last week's meeting and do not have your book, please come anyway, you will be able to participate without having done the homework!

New Evites are Coming

Apparently the "new & improved" Evite is not so user-friendly (hooray!  it is not just me!), so we are going to cancel the original evite and re-do them under the "old & superior" version!  If you have already replied, please re-RSVP when you get the new invitation.  Sorry for the confusion and pray that the new version of Evite doesn't completely replace the old version anytime soon...at least not while I (Erin) am in charge of sending invitations!!!

Mom's Night Out: Thursday, 9/16

Just a reminder that we have a Mom's Night Out on the calendar for Thursday, September 16th.  If you have any ideas or activities in mind, please email Erin or Heather!  Look for an evite by the end of the week.

Save the Date!

Look for an evite later this week for our Time Out! family cookout on Sunday, September 26 from 5-7 at Erin Clary's house.  We had a family dinner after our Easter Egg Hunt last spring and had lots of fun with the whole family, so we hope you will be able to join us!  We are also planning to celebrate Karen Hay, Jenn Samonsky Jamie Bouchard & Beverly Prickett's babies that evening with a small baby shower.  Karen, Jenn & Beverly are having boys and Jamie is having a girl!

Time Out! is going to pay for fried chicken from KFC, Erin is going to supply paper products and Heather is going to supply drinks.  Please bring a dish (appetizer/side/dessert) to share!

Important Documents to Print

We will begin our book study, Mothers of the Bible, next week.  If you are participating in the book study, click here to print a copy of the reading guide & study questions.  You can also access this document on the Shutterfly website.

You can find the handout from tonight's meeting on the Nine Characteristics of Biblical Fellowship here.  This document can also be found at the Shutterfly website.

If you would like to participate in the book study and have not already done so, please contact Heather Korey immediately to order a book!

Information About Mom's Night Off Meal Exchange & Stroller Club

Due to a lack of interest (and many moms still trying to catch up with their summer meal exchanges!), we have decided to suspend Mom's Night Off until later in the year.

We did have loads of interest in walking at Little Mulberry Park after dropping the kids off at preschool, but we are trying to come up with a way to organize this!  Last time we started this, we had two days that worked for the majority of our participants, and this time we have moms interested in walking every day of the week.  We are going to give preschool drop-off a week or so of getting into the routine and then try and get a list of interested moms together for each day.  Look out for a post in the next week or so asking for days you would be interested in walking!

Topic for 9/1 Meeting

We will be discussing the Nine Characteristics of Biblical Fellowship from Rick Warren's The Purpose Driven Life at our next meeting on Wednesday, 9/1.

We will also be distributing copies of the book Mothers of the Bible for those of you who indicated that you wanted to participate in the book study.  If you are not going to be able to attend the next meeting and are participating in the book study, please contact Heather Korey to arrange a time to pick up your copy.  If you would like to participate in the book study and have not filled out the registration forms, please contact Heather Korey.

Recap from 8/25 Meeting

Just a few announcements/reminders from our last meeting:

*If you haven't reserved childcare for Wednesday nights, please email Amy Stokes (3 and under) or sign up for TLC (4 and up) on the HMUMC website.

*There is a Family & Young Adult Cookout scheduled for Sunday, August 29 from 5:30-7:30 @ Duncan Creek Park.  Come hangout and meet some other young families in an informal way.  If you would like to know more about LifeGroups, Sunday School or Bible Studies, leaders will be at the cookout to answer your questions.  Bring a side, salad or dessert to share.

*The HMUMC Women's Retreat is scheduled for January 28-30 at Unicoi State Park.  The cost is $150 and the church is offering a payment plan.  If you have any questions, please talk with Heather Korey!

*Time Out! is now on Facebook!  Click here to link up with other members.

Playdates Announced

We decided that our playdate scheduled for Friday, September 10th would be play time & a picnic at Duncan Creek Park.  Since many moms have kids in school on Fridays, we decided that would make it easy to bring the little ones to play and be close to pick up the older kids from preschool.  We are going to meet up at 10 and picnic under the pavilion.  An evite was sent earlier today (Friday) for this outing; if you have been following Time Out! on the web and haven't made it to a meeting yet, please email Erin Clary to get on the evite list!

For our playdate on Monday, October 11, Jamie Bouchard has volunteered her backyard for an outside playdate at 10 AM!  This is a GCPS/HMUMC school holiday, so if you are wondering what to do with the kids, please come and play with us!  Look for an evite for this event in a few weeks.

Meeting Reminder

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday evening, 8/25, from 6:45-8:15 in room A-1 in the modular.  We will be continuing with getting to know you activities, so if you missed the first meeting, please join us this week!

If you haven't been to a meeting yet, please print the Registration Forms and bring them to your first meeting (download them from GoogleDocs, link is 2 posts down).  Also, for first timers, if you need child care, please make sure to email Amy Stokes and/or sign up for TLC so that the church can have enough workers present on Wednesday evening to care for our kids.

Don't forget a picture for your name tag/table tent!

I just saw this on Facebook!

On Saturday, August 21st Zaxby's Hamilton Mill will be joining HMUMC in a can drive for the food pantry! Bring two non-perishable items to Zaxby's open to close and receive free chicken fingers!

I finally figured out how to post a document on the blog!  If you still need to print & complete the Time Out! registration forms, you can click here to get them from Google Docs.  Please complete them and bring them to your first Time Out! meeting.  The page is formatted a little differently from the original attachment on Shutterfly, but this is much easier to locate online.

Meeting Topics Page Added

We've added a page with all of the year's meeting topics so you will know exactly what is going on every week at Time Out! .  The page can be located under the email subscription box under the heading "Meeting Topics".  If you are opting out of the book study, this page will be helpful in planning which meetings you may want to skip.

Frequently Asked Questions Section Added

We have added a FAQ section to the blog for new members, located on the right hand side of the page, under the email subscription box.  Feel free to refer new moms to this part of the webpage to learn more about our group.  Please let Erin Clary know if you can think of other FAQ that should be included!

Time Out! is on Facebook

Time Out! has created a group page on Facebook to link our members!  Click here to be added as a member.  As we are a new group and in the process of adding new members, this group will be an open group, so be careful in posting personal information on the wall.

Keep in Touch with Time Out!

Please make sure that you sign up to receive email announcements from Time Out! by entering your email address into the subscription box at the top right side of the blog homepage.  When you enter your email address and complete the accompanying form, it will automatically generate an email to address you listed.  Please make sure to click the link in the email to confirm that you want to join our email list and activate your subscription (you can unsubscribe at any time).

We will not be sending evites for weekly meetings after the first week, so blog updates are the way to keep up with meeting topics & group announcements.

We will be sending evites for play dates, field trips, Mom's Night Outs and other events.  Don't worry, your email address will be kept private and topics containing personal information will not be shared via the blog, but we do use the subscription list to make up our email & evite list, so don't get left off!

Time Out! Child Care

If you will need child care on Wednesday evenings to attend Time Out!, please follow the directions below, depending on the age(s) of your child(ren).

If you have a child 3 or under, please email Amy Stokes at amy.stokes@hmumc.org .  Please give her your name, the name and age of your child, the names of anyone authorized to pick up your child, your contact information and anything she needs to know to care for your child.

If you have a child 4 or over, please complete the sign-up form for TLC (Teaching the Love of Christ; formerly J-Towne) found here to reserve your child's space at TLC on Wendesday evenings.

Meal Exchange Updates

We are going to be updating our meal exchange participants for the school year.  We will ask for new & returning participants in a few weeks.  If you have been participating but would not like to continue during the school year, you will have the chance to opt out.

For those of you new to Time Out!, we have several members who participate in what we call Mom's Night Off.  Once a month, you prepare a meal for another participating family.  You can deliver it to their house, invite them to your house for dinner or take the other family out...your choice!

Once you sign up, you are obligating yourself to a three month committment.  We will have Fall 2010 (September, October, November), Winter 2011 (January, February, March) and Summer 2011 (June, July, August) exchanges.

August Meal Exchange

August is almost here!  If you are participating in the meal exchange, please check out the list below for your August "assignments"!

Sundae Sunday Time Announced

From HMUMC's Facebook page:

"Join us from 4:00pm-5:30pm for our annual event of ice cream sundaes and your opportunity to see all of the ministry opportunities at HMUMC. There is something for everyone to get involved with, including children’s ministry, choir, youth, adult education, senior programs, fellowship, mission projects, UM Men’s, Women’s programs, family volunteer opportunities and more."

Don't Forget about MNO!

We have our last Mom's Night Out of the summer scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, August 4th (same day as our pool playdate).  An evite was sent about a week ago, so if you are planning on attending, please update your RSVP on the evite, as well as list any ideas you have for the evening!

Pool Playdate

Marie Perry has offered her neighborhood pool to our group again, so please look for the evite in your inbox for a pool playdate at Chandler Grove on Wednesday, August 4th @ 10 AM!

Time Out! Start Day: Changed...AGAIN!

Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, August 18th as originally planned!

HMUMC schedule a revival for the 18th, so we pushed the start date to the 25th...but the revival has now been cancelled, so we are back to our original schedule!  Sorry for all of the confusion!

Upcoming August Events

It is hard to believe that we are only a week away from August!  You probably already have these listed on your calendar, but for those who don't, here is a list of our August events:

*Wednesday, August 4th: Mom's Night Out (evite sent)
*Friday, August 13th: Playdate @ Imaginations at Play (10 AM...evite coming soon!)
*Wednesday, August 25th: First Time Out! Meeting (6:45)

We are also planning another pool playdate at Marie's subdivision (doesn't she have the most wonderful pool set-up for our crazy group?!), so we will get that date out ASAP!

If you still haven't signed up for the Shutterfly site, they have a GREAT calendar feature with all of our events scheduled!  I printed out a Time Out calendar for 2010-2011 yesterday for my notebook...thank you Heather for insisting on us getting everything scheduled now!!!

Steering Meeting Reminder

Just a reminder that our final steering meeting prior to our first meeting will be on Sunday evening (7PM) at Heather's house.  Everyone is invited to come and share ideas & opinions, but you are not obligating yourself to anything!  Please email Heather to RSVP or get directions.

Stroller Club Postponed

We have decided to stop sending Stroller Club evites because it has been too darn hot to walk in the mornings...it was 88 today at 9:30!  Yikes!  Much too warm for the little ones...

We will be starting back up in September when HMUMC preschool/MMO is back in session, so look for more details about days, times & evite sign-up on the blog!

Stroller Club Update

We have moved our start time up to 8:30 until HMUMC MMO & Preschool starts in August...hopefully we can shave a few degrees off the temperature by getting out there a little earlier!

For moms new to the group, several moms walk regularly at Little Mulberry Park (2.2 miles) on Monday & Thursday mornings.  If you would like to be added to the Stroller Club evite list, please email Erin Clary.

Vote for The Pantry @ HMUMC

Just a reminder if you haven't done so (and it is okay to do so again if you already have!) to please vote for The Pantry, HMUMC's food bank to win this month's charitable donation (currently $6,000!) from Southern Savers.

It is quick and easy...just click on the "vote" link above and enter "Dacula, GA, The Pantry @ HMUMC" in the appropriate boxes on the enter form.  That's it!

Southern Savers makes an $8 commission on every subscription to All You magazine, but graciously donates that money to a food bank every month.  This month, Southern Savers is allowing the readers to choose the food bank, so please vote for The Pantry so we can see that money help those in need in our community!

Book Study for the 2010-2011 Year

Many current members expressed interest in doing a Bible Study/Book Study component to our mom's group this year, and since we are able to meet weekly, we finally have time to fit it in!

We realize that a book study is not for everyone, so we will be updating the calendar with the dates of meetings that will be focused on the book, that way you can plan your schedule accordingly.

The book that we have chosen to read is called Mothers of the Bible: A Devotional.  HMUMC Time Out! will be providing personal copies of books to members wishing to participate in this activity.

Product Description from Amazon:

Mothers of the Bible takes you inside the lives of twelve biblical mothers whose struggles to live with faith and courage are much like yours. Through their successes and failures alike, these women from long ago will encourage you and strengthen you in your challenging and rewarding role as a mother.

From the Back Cover:

Children need the love, wisdom, and nurture that mothers are uniquely capable of giving. Mothers of the Biblecan help you fulfill your own calling as a mother by offering insights from God's Word. Exploring the lives of women in the Bible can help strengthen your faith and your effectiveness as a mother. Like you, these mothers wanted the best for their children. And like you, they sometimes faced difficulties that challenged their faith. Looking to them can help deepen your understanding of Scripture, enabling you to experience more of God's love so you can reflect that love to your children. Adapted from Women of the Bible, Mothers of the Bible furnishes a unique twelve-week devotional experience. Each week becomes a personal retreat focused on the life of a particular biblical mother. Designed for personal prayer and study or for use in small groups, Mothers of the Biblewill help you ground your relationship with your children on God's Word.

Evite List to Be Updated

We are going to be updating the evite list for events taking place in July and beyond.  Please make sure that you are signed up on the HMUMC Time Out! email list to continue receiving evites.  In a constant effort to make sure that Time Out! announcements and invitations are welcome in your inbox, you will be removed from the evite list if you are not subscribed for Time Out! emails.

Stroller Club Time Change

By popular demand, Stroller Club will continue through July and August at Little Mulberry Park (Hog Mountain entrance), but we are going to change the start time to 8:30, effective Monday, July 5th, due to the summer heat!  We will adjust the start time again once HMUMC preschool & MMO resumes.

Babysitting Exchange Update

We had a poll posted on the website through yesterday for those interested in a group babysitting exchange in July, but unfortunately, we only received votes from 2 members on which days would be the best to schedule the event, so we have decided not to have a group exchange take place during the summer.  However, we've had several moms express interest in swapping sitting services, so if you are open to this idea, please leave a comment on this post with your name and the way you would prefer to be contacted (please don't list contact information, just home/cell/email; we can send an updated directory via email), and we will set up a babysitting exchange page.  Like the group exchange, you must be willing to participate in both ends of the exchange.  Time Out! will be happy to set up a babysitting exchange page to facilitate communication, but the swapping of services needs to take place between members.

Shutterfly Password

If you are already a member of the Shutterfly share site, you should have received an email this evening with the password to access the site.  Because we have pictures of us & our little ones on the site, I wanted to make sure that only members were able to view them.  If you have not yet registered for the Shutterfly site, please click through the email that was sent several weeks back to be approved or email me and I can send you a new invitation.  If you are already a member, you can use the password or sign in through your email address.

Steering Meeting Location Change!

We are going to meet at El Mocajette (or whatever the name is!) Mexican restaurant on Sunday for our steering meeting, instead of at Erin's house.  It is located on Hamilton Mill Road in the shopping center in front of Walmart & across from Chick Fil A.

Sunday, June 6, 2010

Babysitting Exchange Poll: REMINDER!

If you are interested in participating in the babysitting exchange in July, please complete the poll on the blog homepage by next weekend so we can get a few days scheduled for the month of July.

Stroller Club

Just a heads-up that Stroller Club attendance will probably be low this week with so many families attending and/or volunteering for Vacation Bible School this week at HMUMC!  If you are planning on walking this week, please double check the evite if you are hoping for a walking buddy, as most of the regulars will be at church this week.

Evites Sent

Evites for the Steering Committee meeting next Sunday, June 13th and our play day in Suwanee (Playtown Suwanee & Suwanee Town Center Fountains) on Friday, June 18th were sent out this evening!

For more information on the Suwanee parks, click here!

We REALLY need help with ideas & planning for next year, so if you have an hour or two to give next weekend, please consider attending the steering committee meeting.  As always, you are not obligating yourself to anything by attending, we just need ideas, opinions & input...but of course, we will gladly accept any level of participating that you are willing to give!

Babysitting Exchange Poll

If you are interested in participating in the babysitting exchange in July, let us know which dates work best for you by voting in the poll on the right side of the blog.  Pick your top three dates and we will try to get 1 or 2 swaps on the schedule.  We did not pick any dates that already had a Time Out! event scheduled...because we knew you'd rather drop your kids for a free morning than walk at Stroller Club!

We have decided not to have a swap in June because we have so many Time Out! activities already scheduled in addition to VBS & Jammin' June at HMUMC.

Check Your Inbox!

Current MOPS/future Time Out! members, you should have received an email confirmation Wednesday evening asking you to verify your FeedBurner/email subscription to this blog.  Please remember to click the link to verify that you would like to receive a daily email from us.  For those of you reading this message delivered to your inbox on Thursday morning, thank you for signing up so fast and good morning!

Please let me (Erin) know if you have any questions, problems or comments!

Important Blog News for Time Out! Members

We are so excited to announce the addition of the FeedBurner feature to the Time Out! blog!  The box in the upper-right-hand corner with the form for you to enter your email address & click subscribe will enable you to receive blog updates via email...but the BEST part is, you will only receive one email per day which will include ALL blog updates/posts for the day AND you will only receive an email on days where new content is added to the blog!

This feature will allow the Steering Committee to post announcements one time in one place and have them automatically emailed to everyone!  This will become the official announcement publication of Time Out!, so if you are a current member or will be joining in the fall, please sign up by entering your email address (we will not share addresses; they will be used only for Time Out! purposes).  You will still receive occasional emails regarding Time Out! events & announcements because there are simply some things that we do want to publish for the world to see, such as emails containing personal information & situations.

Current MOPS/future Time Out! moms, look for an email Wednesday or Thursday with more information about signing up.  If you are new to our group or just want more information, please sign-up now to begin getting updates!

Also, please remember to sign-up for the other Time Out! site on Shutterfly (http://hmumctimeout.shutterfly.com) to have access to photo sharing & our events calendar.

Two New Summer Activities!

We are going to play at Duncan Creek park on Monday, June 21st.   Come and play at 10:30 and then stay for a picnic lunch.  If it rains, we will play & picnic at Heather Korey's house.

We are also going to eat lunch at The Flying Machine in Lawrenceville on Tuesday, July 27th @ 11 o'clock.  The Flying Machine is located (literally!) on Briscoe Field at the Gwinnett County Airport.  They have yummy food and a great patio where the little ones can watch the planes take off and land.

Our current Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group / future Time Out! group recently learned about a family in our area in need of some assistance after the father passed away, leaving his wife, three young girls & an unborn child.  As the immediate needs were taken care of by the mother's MOPS group & church, we decided we could put our couponing skills to good use and help with household needs.  We took up a collection from our moms and received $267.  We have spent $235 so far and were able to purchase $352.46 worth of supplies, a savings of $117.44 by couponing & shopping the sales!  We also added a few more items & a Publix gift card to help with the perishables.  In addition, Publix at Mulberry Village was kind enough to donate an additional $25 gift card to the family.

Thank you SO MUCH for the generous donations and an extra special thank you to Jennifer Skidmore & Heather Korey for helping me (Erin) shop...and to our awesome cashier Moses at the Mall of Georgia Target, who handled our thick stack of coupons like a pro!!

Start Date Change!

Time Out! will not be starting until August 25, 2010.  HMUMC has an evening revival scheduled for August 18th to kick the school year off, so all Wednesday night activities will now begin the following week.

Field Trip to Yellow River Game Ranch

Several moms will be getting together for a field trip to the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn on Tuesday, 5/25 at 10 AM.  If you haven't been to the YRGR, it is a little low budget, but lots of fun for the kids & adults.  Animals roam freely as you walk along the 1-2 mile shaded path, so you have lots of opportunities to feed and pet them!  Don't forget to bring your own food or you can purchase food from the gift shop.

Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for kids 2-11 and one child under 2 is admitted free with each paying adult.

Hope to see you Tuesday!

Stroller Club

The "official" Time Out! Stroller Club will begin meeting Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30 AM at Little Mulberry Park, Hog Mountain entrance across from HMUMC.  Bring your little ones in strollers or your big ones on bikes and get some exercise while catching up with other Time Out! mommies!

We will meet up at the information center/park map at the top of the hill.  Evite will automatically send those interested an "invitation" to walk approximately three days before a scheduled walk.  To be added to the evite list, please email Erin.

Little Mulberry is currently closed for repairs to the trail (week of 5/17), but should be back open by Monday, 5/24.  In the event that Little Mulberry is unable to be utilized, we will meet at Duncan Creek Park (in the parking lot near the new library).

Time Out! @ Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church

Time Out! is an old group with a new name that will begin meeting at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church in August 2010. Currently we are meeting as a chartered MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, but are restructuring for and coming back as Time Out! : A Fellowship for Moms of Little Ones for the 2010-2011 year.

Meetings are open to any mothers of young children looking to connect with other moms in the area. Meetings will include discussions, speakers, crafts, service projects and other activities.  In the past we have met on a weekday morning, but we are hoping that by moving to an evening meeting that we will be able to reach working and stay at home mothers.  We will be meeting on Wednesday evenings from 6:45-8:15 in room A-1 in the modular building and child care is available. Contact Heather Korey or Erin Clary for more information.
